The Vasiliev family lives in southern Ukraine, and has 7 adopted children. Their oldest child is Victoria, who spent her childhood with poor, alcoholic biologic parents. Every day she would visit a Christian soup kitchen to get the one meal she could depend on. It was at this soup kitchen that she met Mrs. Vasiliev, who would one day become her mother. When Victoria was 12, her biologic mother died and her biologic father immediately placed her in an orphanage. The Vasilievs remembered the lonely, hungry child from the soup kitchen and decided to bring her out of the orphanage and into their family.
Her adoptive father, Alexander, tells about Victoria in his own words: "After we adopted Victoria, we were able to get her accepted into the prestigious “Kherson School of the Arts”. When we visited the school to enroll her, she in total sincerity asked me, "Will they beat me here?"...In that moment I endured a world of emotions... I told her that she was now our daughter and no one would dare to touch her...Now Victoria is 18 years old, and is a cheerful, modern young woman. She finished art school and is in the second year of medical college. Last year she was baptized, and she confidently looks to the future, knowing that Christ has given her a new life that she loves.”
